Historical Places in Ar Raqqah Saint Sergius: It's one of the most important monuments to visit. It's composed of two side aisles .The central nave is formed by large full half round vaults with double arches resting on columns with typically Byzantine Capitals. The shapeless remains of a rectangular building may have been the intramural residence of the Caliph Hisham before he could live in his palace south of the Byzantine city. The Great Church: It's also called the Cross Church. It contains the tombs of St. Sergios and his friend Bakhos, so it's also called the Two Saints Church, or the Martyrs Church. Al banat palace: It's also called Abbasid Palace. It was built with the foundation of Al-Rafiqa town, which composes now a part of Ar-Raqqa city. Its landmarks have been discovered in details. Most of its parts have been restored recently. Rasafeh Wall: 5 kms long and was two fold with a partition . 74 towers supported the Wall. Only 6 ones have remained and been repaired.
